Lavaflowsurf camp and surf school Lanzarote was born on the island of Lanzarote in 2001, with the idea of giving everyone the opportunity to feel the rush and exhilaration of the ocean, while learning the importance of water safety.
Our Director and senior surf instructor Paul Cardwell Hounam has been surfing for over 20 years from breaks in the cold north of Scotland to the frozen reaches of Norway down to the warm waters of Hawaii and various other destinations including over 13 years here on our wonderful island of Lanzarote, so he knows the conditions here better than anyone else something that all our students benefit from. Paul was trained by the British surfing association and has other extensive qualifications including the Royal lifesaving beach lifeguard, Pool Lifeguard, International Lifesaving society surf lifeguard and the only non Spanish person to hold the F.E.S.S award. He is much respected on the island from fellow surfers to the lifesaving community after running the beach of Playa Grande for the Cruz Roja (red cross) organizing training and a new beach protection systems. He has also completed several inter island swims, the Lanzarote Ironman, Las Tres Isla's race and various other triathlon's. His passion for surfing and teaching surfing is second to none and we think he gets more excited watching people stand up for the first time than he gets in his own talented surf sessions. Paul becomes an instant friend to everyone he meets and loves to share his knowledge and experiences with everyone, he makes all our students feel at home, safe and motivated with a kind cheeky manner and a wicked sense of humor we are sure your going to love every minute of your time spent with us.

THE LAVAFLOWSURF SCHOOL AND ACADEMY Lanzarote
We are located in Puerto del Carmen but have a daily assessment to chose which break is best for your surfing ability and confidence. Your safety is paramount and Lavaflowsurf Lanzarote surf school ensure all staff hold up to date first aid and life saving certificates. More and more people are coming to Lanzarote to have a doing holiday rather than a traditional sit by the pool holiday, so why not join in the fun and jump on a board, wether surfing or stand up paddle boarding we want you to find a new exciting way to enjoy the water. Are selection of equipment has been taken into carefully consideration as to what is first of all safe but also to give you the customer the most rewarding experience. Are choice of boards varies to the standard of surfing you are capable of, we use Tiki soft and hard boards for beginner to intermediate levels, as after trying various other boards we believe these to be the best board with the safety of a soft top but with a harder bottom allowing our clients to perform turns and more advanced maneuvers. For more advanced surfers or for those whom are not sure what board to buy, we offer a Tiki test center allowing you to try different sizes and shapes of board so when you leave us you can go back to your local surf shop and purchase the best board for you. Our chosen wet suits are Tiki 3/2 mm neoprene to allow maneuverability, warmth but also protection from the sun.
WHO CAN SURF
Surfing is open to anyone and everyone, age does not have a bearing on people having fun in the water. Through are own experiences we have met people whom are still surfing in their 80s and children whom are learning at the age of 6.
